Delegate Mary Beth Carozza publicly thanked Governor Larry Hogan for his announcement of $20 million from the State of Maryland through the Maryland Stadium Authority to fund the final expansion of the Roland E. Powell Ocean City Convention Center. “I am excited for the expected economic impact and increase of jobs this expansion will bring. This will not only attract new clients to the Convention Center, but allow our current ones to expand,” Delegate Carozza said. The expansion is expected to bring $67 million and up to 670 new jobs to Ocean City. The funding was announced by Governor Hogan at the Convention Center at the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) 2018 Summer Conference. “This facility has long been an important economic driver for Ocean City, bringing in thousands of visitors for conferences and events like MACo and allowing local businesses to stay open and continue to hire year-round,” Governor Hogan stated. Delegate Carozza added “I am proud to have supported legislation to increase funding for the expansion this past session.” Legislation was introduced during the 2018 legislative session that would have provided funding for the Ocean City Convention Center expansion. House Bill 133-Maryland Stadium Authority - Ocean City Convention Facility - Renovation passed the House of Delegates by a vote of 130-3 but did not clear the State Senate before adjournment on April 9. Delegate Carozza also thanked Mayor Rick Meehan and the outstanding team at the OC Convention Center for their outstanding work in supporting the many conventions held over the years and their advocacy in making the case for the Convention Center expansion.
Delegate Mary Beth Carozza's State Senate campaign has been highlighted in the Republican State Leadership Committee's “18 in 18: Races to Watch.” The RSLC is the only national organization dedicated to electing Republicans to down-ballot state offices. “I am excited and honored to have my State Senate campaign be recognized as one of 18 races to watch in 2018 by the Republican State Leadership Committee. I am humbled to be recognized for my constituent service, work with local businesses, farmers, the fishing industry, and support of career trade and technology education,” Delegate Carozza said. “The first round of candidates identified on our ‘18 in ’18: Races to Watch’ list embody the future leaders we will wholeheartedly support through the Future Majority Project and Right Women, Right Now initiatives. We have had enormous success with candidates we have already elected to office this year and we look forward to the success of the remainder of these candidates come November,” said Matt Walter, President of the Republican State Leadership Committee. The Future Majority Project supports candidates who advocate for economic growth and job creation policies. Carozza added: “With less than 100 days to go to Election Day, we are leaving no stone unturned, and we're out there everyday listening and responding to the voters. The RSLC has recognized my campaign as a race to watch because of the statewide significance in breaking the Annapolis establishment. I am the best candidate for State Senator because I best represent the priorities of the Shore way of life and am the stronger partner to Governor Larry Hogan to keep the Shore and Maryland on the right track. Our Team Carozza campaign continues to build momentum each day with new volunteers and strong support from the voters.”
Delegate Mary Beth Carozza Issued the following statement on the financial impact of State-sponsored health insurance: “I strongly oppose the Democratic nominee's State-sponsored health insurance plan and call on my opponent, Senator Jim Mathias, to disavow this outrageous proposal. I am alarmed by the enormous cost of the State-sponsored health insurance plan proposed by Democratic gubernatorial nominee Ben Jealous which would result in higher taxes and fees on Maryland families and businesses, and that's according to the non-partisan Maryland Department of Legislative Services. It's completely unacceptable and irresponsible for a gubernatorial nominee to propose a plan that would be so hurtful to our Shore families and small businesses, a scheme that would cost Maryland taxpayers $24 billion a year. This would require a burdensome 10% payroll tax against businesses and a $2,800 fee on every man, woman, and child in Maryland, thus killing jobs and potentially financially ruining thousands of Maryland families. This plan would force lawmakers to raise taxes, which hardworking Marylanders simply can’t afford. I will continue to work with Governor Hogan to keep healthcare affordable and accessible for Maryland families. We need to protect the options available to Marylanders, without raising taxes or placing unnecessary burdens on our hard-working Maryland families and small businesses.”
